Port Alberni Community Action Team
In 2021, I was contacted by a member of the Port Alberni Community Action Team, who was looking for someone to help tweak their drafted logo. They were actually referred to me by a previous client, the Campbell River Community Action Team as they are another Community Action Team, they often work closely with each other and collaborate together.
Who is Port Alberni Community Action Team?
Port Alberni Community Action Team (CAT) which focuses on overdose prevention.
Their organization follows four different guiding principles:
- Harm reduction
- Ending stigma
- Networking in the community that supports treatment and recovery
- Working to improve social stabilization that assists people in substance disorder recovery
It’s vital in so many different communities that we work to understand and empathize with those who surround us. I’m so thankful for the opportunity to design their logo and truly enjoyed this project. You can learn more about this amazing organization by looking at their website.
In the Beginning, There was an Idea…

Originally, this project was to provide feedback on their existing drafted logo, and digitize it so it could be used across different platforms and in different applications.
Once I provided them with a report, they approved a next step of tweaking some aspects of the logo to improve the overall design and feel of the logo.
The Final Logo
Once approved to make a few changes, we had a discussion about exactly they wanted their logo to represent.
These principals were:
- They wanted to use hands to represent that is organization is here to help “all” and various members of their community, including networking in the community to expand their services and resources.
- Each brand is used to represent the different and various groups within the community,
- That they wanted colours to represent diversity, and importantly that they wanted to use orange to representing Indigenous communities for the largest and highest branch.
- They wanted the words to act as an umbrella, protecting the community as a whole.
With these ideas in place I moved forward with tweaking the overall design, and creating a cohesive colour scheme that also represented the diversity is their community.

The final logo here, only had some slight changes, but I feel like it improved their branding as a whole, having a colour palette that will be cohesive through any application, and I really love how the text shaped as an umbrella gives it a distinct shape, while allowing white space into the design.
